UCon08 Voted

Remember Last Year When Y'all Voted at UCon?

This year you can do it again! But with different clips so it'll seem like a totally new show. Because it is.

The fun starts this Saturday at U-Con with the first ever (in Michigan) Smithee Awards Card Game: Schlock. It's a lot of fun and we have..."prizes". Stop by Saturday, 12:00pm - 3:00pm to play or to just hang out because Schlock is a lot of fun to watch (but more fun to play!). Room TBD UClub 16.

In the evening, 7pm to be precise, you can catch the Smithee 19 primaries in (I think Confirmed! I looked it up) the Wolverine Room. We've been there the past several years so I'm taking a stab and calling it for this year. If not, sinage will direct you to the proper room. We know from signs here at Smitheeland. Anyway!

Saturday, November 14th
U-Con at the Michigan Union
(intersection of South University and State Street)
12pm - 3pm - Schlock: The Smithee Awards Card Game
7pm - midnightish: The Smithee Primaries.

Talking Up U-Con a Little Bit

Happy Friday, Smitheeites. This may be the official announcement for the opening of the Smithee 19 season if it hasn't already been announced elsewhere. Or maybe we'll officially be rolling with Smithee 19 on November 14th when we show the U-Con MiniSmithees (sometimes also referred to as The Smithee Primaries when the mood strikes). We don't stand on much ceremony but what we do stand in on is bad movie fun. So much so that we've added a little extra something-something Smithee to the U-Con gaming experience.

First of all, The Smithe Primaries will be held on their usual Saturday evening (November 14th at 7pm in the Wolverine Room until we run out of clips or are forced to go home). We hope you will stop by for at least a clip or two because we have some fantastically awesome Smitheeage to show you. I will warn the feint of Smithee heart that the Primaries are the year's culling from all the movies watched by the Guru and the Earl. This means there will likely be more than 5 clips to choose from and that they might not be edited down to their final show keenness. That said, we are eternally grateful to our few, our proud, our Smithee Primary Voters for taking one for the team and helping us decide which clips should be nominated. You guys are Awesome^2!

Dinner and/or/with/at/by a Smithee

September is coming up and with it should be Dinner and a Smithee night but...see...it's Ann Arbor (mostly) during football season and I don't know about you but I sure as heck don't want to be out and about during football Saturdays. Mind you, The Guru and I can walk to the Corner Brewery so we aren't much affected by crazy football traffic. However, most people can't get across town for want of FOOTBALL so we decided to have Dinner and a Smithee on an off Saturday.

Guess which Saturday in September isn't a home game.

Yeah. Thanks football schedule. Also thanks that of the 12 games, 8 of them are home games. HATE! So it looks like the September Dinner and a Smithee will be in very late September...like possibly the beginning of October. Stay tuned for more information while we sort out what weekend in Septober we'll be having Dinner and a Smithee.

Stoopid football.

Screaming Hoverboard Racing!

Short Notice: Smithee Nite Out Sorta

This is a sort of informal Smithee Nite out month because we're going to be changing up the Smithee Nite concept just a tad. Saturday, July 4th is your last day to hang with the Smithee Crowd as part of "Smithee Nite Out" (the usual 8pm at the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti). Come Saturday, July 32nd (what?) we'll be reorganizing Smithee Nite Out into Dinner and a Smithees. The only real difference being we'll be starting a whole lot earlier so you out of towners can conceivably make an evening of it and so the Earl, who is working nights now, can come for a bit as well. Stay tuned for more info on the revamp of Smithee Nite but for now, if you want to come hang and play some games, The Guru and your promotions Ninja will definitely be at the Brewery on Independence Day. Possibly with Vapor's Gambit in tow because we scored a (free!) second copy and have an awesome amount of track now.

Smithee Nite Out: May 09

Just a little local remindery - we're going to be gathering this Saturday at the Corner Brewery in Ypsi for the May edition of Smithee Nite out. The Guru went poking through the directions for Vapor's Gambit; a "screaming hoverboard racing" game for 2-6 players. This is the odd little game we picked up for pretty cheap at the Penguicon Charity Auction and after learning the gameplay, I think it might come with us to the Corner. Any game with a "Woah!" chit is good by me and it seems pretty straight forward - sort of like the bastard child of Mille Bornes, Cthulhu 500 and some random tile playing race game.

To recap:

"I Don't know...AASA could stand for a lot of things. Like 'Answer A Silly Aardvark' or 'Anchovy Artichoke Salad Aperitif'"

"No Gus, I'm sure it stands for Ann Arbor Smithee Awards. We'll just show up at the Chem building tomorrow at 7 and I'm sure we'll find the Smithee show. I have a sixth sense about it, just like a cat."

Giant Pixie Stix Saviors

Last year Iron Chef Smithee noted that the local haunts weren't carrying GPSs anymore so he asked the general Smith-ka-teer crowd to keep an eye out for them. My mom and Mr. Paul came through and single handedly saved Smithee 17 from being giant pixie stixless when they found then at the Brighton Costco.

This year the GPS famine is even wider spread and the Giant Pixie Stix herds that had once stretched from horizon to horizon have quietly disappeared the way of the Dodo or the Passenger Pigeon. Not even the once fertile grounds of Brighton yielded up a Box of Stix, we were afraid that the Giant Pixie Stix had become extinct. Then, by luck and good fortune, My mom and Mr. Paul happened to be in Toledo, Ohio at a Sam's club there and what should they find? The last remaining GPS colony possibly in the Midwest. Once again, they have saved the A2 Smithees snack table from a terrible lack of Giant Pixie Stix.

So, when you grab your Giant Pixie Stix and suck out the sugary goodness, give a good thought towards Ohio and the nurturing climate which has allowed the Giant Pixie Stix to survive there during these harsh times. You might also thank Mr. Paul and my mom for finding the Stix and braving the Ohio wilds to bring them back to you, although I'm not so sure how keen my mom is about being called a "Pixie Sitx Savior". She did say she wouldn't mind being called a Pixie Stix Princess though.

What is half-ish of the ides of March?

Remindery: Saturday January 24th

is the official January Smithee Nite Out at the Corner Brewery. [info]lunargeography and I are hoping to premier a new-to-the-area game which is part Nanofictionary, part Smithees and all fun. This is assuming that we can make the cards all in one night. I have oodles of Sharpies, it should be a breeze right? RIGHT!

Anyhow, we'll be hanging out at 8pm-ish give or take so come by and say "hey". Bring a game if you want or just chill with us crazy folks. And remember "Red Snapper. Very tasty."

First Smithee Night Out of 2009!

I know it seems like we just were at the Corner Brewery but that was how 2008 liked to roll. It also could be that there really aren't that many days between November 36th and January but whatever the reason, tis the season for gathering, gaming and general Smithee fun. This month we've decided that January 24th looks about right for some Smithee Nite Out action so I hope your calendars are relatively clear for some portion of the evening. Happy Hour starts at 8pm, we'll bring some assorted games to play.

Garbage In Smithees Out

Happy November 32nd!

Yes indeed, it is the 32nd of November which means just four short days until November 36th and the next Smithee Night Out. As usual, we'll be hanging at the

CORNER BREWERY
from 8pm onward. There will also be a "shadow art fair" going on as well which...ermmmm...I hadn't known about when I picked this Saturday to do the Smithee thing. But, I'm optimistic that the snow and the cold won't make things too crowded. Anyhow, that's what's happening on the social end of Smitheeness. Hope to see you there.
