Random Trivia Month

Hey there Smitheeites, welcome to December. In a perfect world, I would have posted this Saturday to officially usher in the patron month of capitalism but I forgot about it until today. Still, if you think about all the time that has ever passed, December 3rd of this year is practically the same day as December 1st so there you go. Anyway, I thought I'd post a trivia question for December, and see what comes out of it.

So! This month's trivia question (which doesn't mean that there will be a trivia question every month unless I have a brilliant idea) is: Who is the most prolific Smithee movie director?

I'll give you the month to mull it over which will also give me enough time to figure it out because I don't know! Oooooo! Trivia so secret, even the poster has no idea what the answer is.

Roger Corman?
Ooh! Oooh! No, I got it!

Alan Smithee!
Surprisingly, we don't have a lot of Alan Smithee directed films (Let's Get Harry and Solar Crisis, or so the Smithee database tells me).

My guess too would be Roger Corman but I don't know! The Smithee database tells me that Roger has scored 5 Smithee movie derectorial credits (Death Sport, Fantastic Four (1994 version), Gunslinger, Teenage Caveman and The Terror) but there are over 600 movies in the database. My other thought for "most appearingest directoralship in the Smitheeverse" was Uwe Boll, but he's not even listed. Hrumph!
I was sure it was Roger Corman, but I also thought it was way more than five. But, I guess a lot of the Smithee movies that I think of as "Roger Corman movies" (Raptor, the Carnousaur series, etc., etc., etc.) were produced by Roger Corman, not directed by him. So, if Roger Corman only gets five, then it's probably Ed Wood.
Good guess! I've been compiling a director database and Mr. Wood's name has come up quite a bit. So I looked him up on the Smithee site and...

He too has 5 directorial credits: Bride of the Monster, Glen or Glenda, Jail Bait, Orgy of the Dead and The Violent Years. Hmmm...I wonder if five will be considered a large number of directed movies, a medium number of directed movies or the low end.
I actually know the answer to this, since I figured it out one day. Keep guessing!

I'm just very happy it's probably not Doris Wishman (she of the 60ies-era nudist films, where you never see anyone talking, just reaction shots.)
